FOWOKAN return to the music scene with a new sound and a fantastic first album entitled “Shadow of Rasta”

From their time together in “Cymande”, the legendary British funk band, FOWOKAN re-unites core member Sam Kelly (drums/bvs) with lead vocalist, Jimmy Lindsay. In 2009 Jimmy performed at The British Lovers Rock Show where he received an Award for his contribution to Lovers Rock and British Black Music. With a lengthy legacy in the UK and international music scenes, Jamaican-born drummer, Sam Kelly, is highly respected for his musical ability across all genres including reggae, R&B, soul, jazz and funk.  FOWOKAN is also Paul Jobson (Boney M, Ben E. King, Joss Stone – MD/keyboards/vocals), Richard Sadler (bass), Tony Qunta (‘Odyssey’, Mervyn Afrika, Cheryl Alleyne – guitar/vocals), Michael ‘Lally’ Carey (guitar/vocals) and Jerome Marcus (Zigaboo Modeliste, Imelda May – percussion/bvs). Each of these musicians brings their own history of great performances and collaborations.   FOWOKAN is also joined, on occasions, by TJ Johnson, Calvin Lindsay, Mike Wesson and Andy Hodge.

The members of FOWOKAN have performed live at the London Jazz Festival Stratford, The Jazz Café London, The BBC Soul Britannia All Stars Tour and One Love Festival.  FOWOKAN have also supported OSIBISA at Fairfield Halls, Croydon as part of the African Music Festival.  The band have been successfully touring in Europe over recent years including France, Holland, Germany and Austria.   They have an established fan base across the U.K.

JL4_editedJimmy is a genuine reggae/soul artist with a cultured musical history. He began as a soul singer in the sixties and came to fame as the front man of Cymande in the 70’s . Jimmy then went on to a solo career and found himself at the forefront of British reggae aligning himself with reggae greats as Joe Gibbs, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Andy and Bob Marley. Jimmy’s song writing delves deeper into the roots of reggae and communicates a powerful message through his Jamaican heritage, touching your soul and dancing feet. His strength of song writing is documented on 3 solo albums ‘Where Is Your Love’, ‘Children Of Rastafari’, and ‘Jimmy Lindsay and Rasuji Live at The Venue 1980’. He has performed alongside Ronnie Lane, E.L.P, Steel Pulse, Status Quo and many contemporaries. His chart success includes his superlative re-working of the 1977 British Reggae award-winning single Commodores’ ‘Easy’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’. Jimmy returns as lead vocalist with FOWOKAN to re-deliver the magic of British Black Music once again.
