Primo Blue

Primo Blue has been on the music circuit since 2006, when Sam Kelly formulated a unique plan.  The idea was that the band rhythm section would remain constant throughout every performance but the front person would be an invited guest, a friend of Primo Blue.  Often these guest performers run their own bands and, in many cases, these are bands where Sam either has the drumseat or deputises.
Primo Blue has played at Big Wheel Festival, Isle of Man; Boogaloo Blues Weekend, Isle of Wight; Blues on the Farm, Chichester; Ealing Festival and Banbury Blues Festival.
The rhythm section for Primo Blue comprises Sam Kelly (drums), Spy Austin (bass/b.vs), Paul Jobson (M.D./keys/b.vs) and Tony Qunta (guitar/b.vs).  With this established wealth of musical talent, guest artists have the opportunity to work in a different musical environment, pushing the boundaries and challenging them to perform outside “comfort zones”.  It is a formula that works, based on a trusted respect for the musical ability and the professionalism of all involved.
Primo Blue’s musical catalogue is as diverse as the guests they invite – Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Keb Mo, Al Green, Howling Wolfe, Muddy Waters and Bob Marley, to name but a few, as well as original material from some of the guest artists.
Primo Blue embraces all genres, recreating musical arrangements without restrictions.   With guest artists fronting the band, the result is an exciting blend of unfamiliarity and trust, professional ability and variety.
