Sam 3 GWSAM KELLY’S BAND has been featuring on the U.K. live music circuit for many years. SAM KELLY (included in Blues in Britain magazine’s “Gallery of Greats”) leads from the drum-seat, selecting his Band from a wealth of fantastic musicians and tailoring the overall sound to suit the event booking.

For a  “funky/blues” feel, Sam is joined by lead guitarist/vocalist, TONY QUNTA and RICHARD SADLER on bass.  Steve Simpson (Roger Chapman, Slim Chance) is a regular guest with SAM KELLY’S BAND and spectacular blues artist, Papa George, brings his “Blues with a Feeling” to the line-up . For set lists spanning most musical genres, SAM KELLY’S BAND is fronted by guitarist/vocalist MICHAEL ‘LALLY’ CAREY with Richard on bass and invited guests including Rowena Poole (vocals), Dom Bon de Souza (sax), Paul Jobson (keys/vocals), Jerome Marcus (percussion), Jim Reece (bass), Frankie Connolly (guitar/vocals) .   For a blues groove, the Band is joined by guitarist/vocalist T.J. Johnson.  If you are after a Delta blues sound, Sam is joined by Giles Hedley on vocals, guitar and double-harmonica together with bass guitarist/vocalist Andy Hodge.

SAM KELLY’S BAND has a musical catalogue covering all genres of music, played in their own particular style but with the roots firmly based in bringing YOU great entertainment.

Sam’s playing career started in the early 1970’s with “Cymande”, an 8-piece ‘Nyah Rock’ band, working and recording successfully in the U.S.A. between 1971-1974.  His self-taught style of drumming has placed Sam in the drumseat with Cymande, Dr. John, Chaka Khan, Eddie Floyd, Robert Plant, Roger Chapman, Michelle Shocked, Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hoople/Bad Company) Blues Band and the late, great Gary Moore.  Sam played drums on Gary’s last R&B album “Bad for you Baby”.  Recently Sam has played with Imelda May, Paul Jones, Robben Ford, Andy Fairweather Low, Chris Barber and Mike Sanchez.  With a delicate sensitivity to rhythm and a great understanding of dynamics in music, he has earned the respected position of Musical Director for Soul Britannia.  Sam has also been honoured in Blues in Britain’s “Gallery of Greats” after winning ‘UK Drummer of the Year’ for five years running.

Lally (guitar/vocals) is an entirely self-taught musician who truly plays from the soul. His style is his alone. With powerful vocals, vibrant stage presence and incredible muscianship on lead guitar, Lally delights audiences wherever he plays. His ability has led him into the world of musical composition for libraries, television and for some truly great performers. He has recently worked with Sam Kelly’s Station House, The Robert Hokum Band, London-based band “Devil Drives” and FOWOKAN reggae band.   “Lally takes the crowd with him on whatever journey he and his fellow musicians decide – from the most delicate of summer breezes to the ‘tour de force’ of a full blown Hurricane………….stunning”..Time Out.

Andy is undoubtedly one of the most versatile bass players in the UK and certainly one of the finest sight readers. He has been playing bass for over 25 years. His first professional gig was at a strip club in Soho. However, all good things must come to an end, and he was eventually persuaded to leave and join a band gigging around Greece and Turkey. Throughout the 1990s Andy became a regular player with many professional bands in and around London, including Johnny Howard, Jack Hawkins, Wonderbrass and The Mike Smith Orchestra and Singers.

Andy’s theatre show credits include Joseph, Home & Away, Fame and more than three years with Blood Brothers. Other tours include work with Lorna Luft, Dave Willetts and Wayne Sleep.   He became a regular session player and writing collaborator at Dream Of Oswald Recording Studios, performing on many CDs and co-writing jingles for EMI/Music House. Working with the Jerry Playle Fusion quartet in 1998, he met David Young who introduced him to his band, Katys Komet, same day Andy joined That’ll Be The Day which, with its non-stop annual touring schedule of up to 250 gigs, took over his professional life for the next ten years, up to, and including, the Dusty in Concert tour which Andy has just finished.

Andy is a serious rocker at heart but had difficulty finding a band that was the real deal until talking to David Young (currently the guitarist in We Will Rock You). According to David, there was only one rock band for you my son, and introduced him to Raw Glory. Andy can be currently found in the wings of the London West End Dominion Theatre “We Will Rock You” show, as he is now a dep for Bass player Neil Murray (Whitesnake).
